321Grid

Team trivia on a category board

Five categories, point values from 100 to 500, and a room split into teams. Pick a tile, race to answer, take control of the board. The team round that turns a quiet table into a huddle.

How it plays

A round of 321Grid

1. The board goes up

The TV shows five categories with tiles worth 100 to 500 points. Players are grouped into teams.

2. A team picks a tile

The team in control chooses a category and value from their phones — the whole team votes on the pick.

3. Everyone answers

Every team answers on their phones, each player voting on the team’s answer. Every team that gets it right scores the tile’s value, and the fastest of them takes control of the board.

4. Clear the board

Play continues until the tiles are gone. The team scores roll into the game’s leaderboard.

Team power-ups

Six ways to play the board

Each team gets a small set of power-ups for the round. Used well, they decide it.

  • Team Duel — pick an opposing team on a question. Right while they are wrong, and you take the tile’s value from their score on top of your own points.
  • Block — choose a rival team and a category; the next time they win control, that category is locked for their pick.
  • Double Down — once you have seen the question and your team’s votes: right doubles the tile, wrong loses its value.
  • Sneak Peek — while your team has control, see clues about a tile before you play it.
  • Side Bet — predict whether the picking team gets it right. Call it and win the wager; miss and lose it.
  • CopyCat — secretly make another team’s locked-in answer your own.

They are the team-round cousins of 321Trivia’s Power-ups: the point is that knowing the answer is only half the game.

Why it works

The round that makes a room talk

A standard trivia round is forty people looking at forty phones. A board round is six huddles arguing about whether to take Geography for 500. The picking, the voting and the race to answer give a table something to do between questions, and a team that is behind can swing a round on one well-chosen tile.

It suits a bar trivia night as a late-game round, a company event where you want people on their feet, and a venue that wants a team format people recognise. Mix it with 321Bingo and standard rounds — see every game mode.
